We came into this event ranked 7th in Division 1. Schedule was back to playing 4 games each day, which we hate but so be it. Friday first up, we had to play, Tombstone, and as usual we dropped or first game of the day and won the rest, so for Friday we were 3 and 1. We had the moning schedule on Saturday starting at 7:46am, we went through the first three teams with little difficulty, including Rock it Kids, but we just had to drop our final game to Trouble, also going 3 and 1 for Saturday and clenching 3rd place going into Sunday.
On Sunday we had to play all our games on the Spyder field which did not play very good to our style of game. The field was more suited for teams that lay back, we are a charging team. We lost our first game to Tombstone as they picked us off trying to fill the snake, one, two three, players shot out trying to make the same move. We adjusted our game and came back and won the next two. This put us in first place for the final four and we were to play Naughty by Nature and should have been and easy win for us, but as things go in paintball we let it slip away winning the first and dropping the next two. Penalties and blown assignments kept us from playing for 1st and 2nd. We had to play Dynasty for 3rd and 4th but everyone was pissed off and discouraged about the pervious loss and we did not give them much of a fight, losing in two.
A team needs to play as a team in order to be successful, and if you are assigned to the wire, the wire you must play! If you are the snake player then get in there and draw fire, don’t hot dog it and get shoot out like a punk, and new players to the team should not be asserting themselves as if they are the leaders of the team, leadership and respect must be earned! We players must also be flexible and try different approaches to the field when the norm is not working. Other team scout opponents just as I do, and if you are doing the same thing on the same field over and over, well then it becomes very easy to setup a game plan to beat you. We have a field captain and he and only he has that last say on the field, if you are told to do something, do it! Finally, yes I do have the right to get crazy when a player screws up, this is MY TEAM and you guys play for me, so do it my way or hit the highway! We have one of the strongest teams in Div 1 let’s not forget that “TEAMWORK” got us this far and when individuals try to be the center of attention the whole team suffers!
We are currently ranked in 5th place going into KC and we hope to move up a couple more. I would like to thank Angel and Performance Angel for their tech support, Draxxus for some great paint and for coming through for us in the finals! We are proud to represent our sponsers and our sponsors and fans alike, are noticing us. We must continue to play up to the expectations of our fans and sponsors, it is a very nice feeling when people ask for an autograph, and when people recognize you at an event and congratulate you! Let’s keep it going this is the third Sunday this year and they are still asking us how we do it. Let me tell all, it’s not that difficult, “KEEP IT FUN” that’s the secret!
May 11-13-07 NPPL Super 7 Tampa 3rd Place Finish Div 1
As last year, we came into this event two players short due to Prom night, Justin and Julio were both out. I would like to thank Gerbil and Alex for helping us out and guest-ing on the team for this event! We also brought back one of our previous players for this event, Peter Diaz who played with us in Miami 05 when we got 4th place has rejoined the team. Andy, Jose, Derek, and Brandon completed the seven man team that played the event, all 19 games!
The venue was great, as always in Tampa! It was a bit dry and dusty due to the drought conditions in Florida, and the smoke from the nearby Everglades fire made for an eerie feeling! Visibility was not much of a problem unless you were flying a plane but the smoke did make for breathing concerns specially when on the radio they were saying not to be outdoors at all and if you had to go outside wear a dust mask and reframe from doing strenuous activities! Yea we played paintball in this shit all weekend.
The new "best two out of three" format was great we thought! It makes for a lot more games, but with this format it is really the better teams that make it to the finals, no more missing out because of bad calls or equipment failure, the better teams will overcome and win their match! Trust me when I say we had bad calls and equipment problems in Tampa but we were able to overcome and place 3rd for this event.
This 3rd place finish puts us in 7th place for the season in Division 1
I would like to give a shout out to Miami Rage D2 for their great performance in D2 placing 1st in the division, GREAT JOB GUYS, KEEP IT GOING!!!!!!!!
NPPL Supper 7 Huntington Beach, CA. March 23-25, 2007
Miami Devious bumps up to D1 and although our skeptics called us crazy we finished the prelims in 8th going 5 and 3 and making it to Sunday. Huntington Beach, one of our favorite venue for so many reason again did not fail to satisfy! During the prelims I can say that we were only beaten by one of the teams we lost to, the other two games were lost due to outside influences. One was a terrible call by a ref pulling a one for one on one of my player who was on the other teams 30 dorito and got some bunker rub on his hand and the other was a setting sun blinding the players on the east side of the field!
The new turf was great, but I still do not understand why NPPL sets up the fields facing East and West where the sun becomes a hindrance during certain times of the day! The weather was a lot more agreeable this year as apposed to 2006. The Angel A1's played flawless and we were ending games in under 3 minutes.
However Sunday was a whole different ball came, we did not win a game! Not because our equipment failed, not because the teams we had to play were all that great and not because of any bad calls, although one of our players did get us a stupid 3 for 1 on the first game, but maybe because the team decided to go to Tijuana on Saturday night and get back at 3:00am. Everyone on the teams says it was not that, it was the 3 for 1 that set the precedence for the day, but when you have a 7:00am start time on Sunday and you are out drinking and getting some you know what in TJ until 3:00am, well I can't believe it's not, when we can't put together one win! Hopefully this will be a lesson to the team and maybe we should hold off on the celebrations until Sunday night.
See you all in Tampa!
1st Place Finish
CFP 5man 2/25/07
Central Florid Paintball, we love the event but we hate the drive! We left Miami
at 3:30am and not quite driving the speed limit made to the field by
7:40am. This event had us playing the Amateur Division with six other
teams, some we new and some we did not. The prelims were round robin
and we only dropped one game to FIERCE giving us the 1st
place spot into the finals. Miami Devious, Fierce, B&D Factory and
Infused made the cut and would play another round robin set to
determine the winner.
First
up in the finals was B&D Factory, they came at us hard but they
drooped two on the break we also dropped two when we got a 1 for1
pulled on us making it a 3 on 3. Justin, Jose and Julio picked
off the final three to win the game. Next was Fierce the team we had
lost to in the prelims. They also came at us very hard sending a guy to
the 50 X on the break. Their left corner was shot off break but
continue to play which cost them a second player on a 1 for 1 making
very easy for us to over power them fro the win. At the end of
the second round we had two wins and we had to play Infused, winning
would lock us into 1st
place, but if not, it could have came up to points with three teams
having 2 and 1. The team hit the field and they all new that the win
was in there own hands, all they had to do was win one more! The game
was quick, Infused dropping two on the break and DVS had all five with
one (Brandon) at the center X. Justin pushed Julio hard up the dorito
side and got him shot but not until he got one, leaving only two. Jose
and Spencer pushed the snake side and after Brandon got home plate from the X, Jose made small time of eliminating the right corner.
Overall
we had a good time and played some good paintball, made a few new
friends and a little bit of money. I would like to thank the CFP crew
for a great event. We will be back, don?t want anybody to think we were
a one time fluke. Congratulations to the teams in the other divisions
that won and the other teams that made the finals in Amateur, B&D
Factory 2nd, Fierce 3rd and Infused with 4th.
I
invite all the south Florida teams to make the trip at least one time
and play the CFP, fields are nice, the refs are good the prices are
very reasonable (Chronic Pro $42.00) or you can bring your own paint and best
of all if you win the prizes are great!!!.
SPRAYPAINT 5man 1st Place Finish Jan 20th, 2007
Last Event in the Spraypaint Series came to an end in dramatic fashion! Miami Devious, who started the series two events in the hole, was just 35 points behind the leader in third place. As with the previous five events Miami Devious finished 1st not dropping a game throughout the entire event. The series points and the $5000.00 first place prize were up for grabs and could have been won by any of the top three.
As luck would have it, the determining factor for winning first place in the series would be placed in the hands of the other teams in the event. Miami Devious would have to come in, in first place, and they did and Ripperz would have to be lower than 4th in order not to win, but they ended up in 4th. So congratulations to the Ripperz and we will gladly take the $2500.00 second place winnings and pay for Huntington Beach NPPL.
In a more positive note, Devious EFX debut as a new team was a very respectable one, going into the finals in 2nd place and ending the event in 3rd overall. EFX will now hopefully continue with the winning Devious tradition at Spray Paint. Look for this team to play all the local events this year.
